It offers several undergraduate programs including six degrees. It also offers two master degree programs and one Ph.D. program.[5] Excluding research funding, it has a yearly budget of nearly $33 million.[6] In 2006-2007, its student population grew by 12.5%.[7]
With over 55 professors and over 200 tutors and teaching assistants,[8] Téluq has a number of courses and degrees in computer science, education, communication, environmental sciences, and management.
TÉLUQ became a component of the University of Québec in Montréal on October 19, 2005. It now has no board of directors, headquarters or registrar. However management offices are located in Quebec City. According to rule 19[9] of UQAM, similar to a TÉLUQ rule in force before its merger with UQAM, these offices must always be in Quebec City. With approximately 60 000 students, the TÉLUQ-UQAM establishment is the biggest francophone university.[10]
Télé-université is partners with several institutions both public and private. Among them are other universities in Quebec, Canada or abroad, the Canadian Virtual University and the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education.[11]
It has over 20,000 students, more than half of them in the Montreal area.[12] Most students (70%) are females. About a third of all students (35%) taking courses at Téluq are from other universities or in on-campus programs. Most students (61%) are under 35 years old. About a fifth of the student population (22%) holds a degree.
There is a student paper called the S@ns P@pier (available online), a student union (AETELUQ), and a popular posting board (C@fé).
Téluq offers several types of courses. Support format includes paper, DVDs, and Web sites (using content management tools such as SPIP).[13]
Courses are designed by teams led by a professor. Teams include research assistants, associate designers, education science specialists, proof readers and other edition staff including artists.
Under the authority of a professor, tutors help students and mark assignments.
In 2005-2006, it received $5 million in research funding, including one million from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.[14] Hence, it received $100,000 per professor in research funding.
Téluq has one research center in Cognitive Informatics: LICEF.
It has several laboratories including:
Téluq is also a contributor to the CERGO (governance research center) with ENAP.
The pancanadian research network LORNET is managed by Téluq. The research network comprises Simon Fraser University, University of Waterloo, University of Saskatchewan, University of Ottawa, École Polytechnique de Montréal, and Téluq.
