Tylognathus

Tylognathus is an invalid genus of ray-finned fishes in the family Cyprinidae. It was established by Heckel in 1843 without a type species. As type species, Varicorhinus diplostomus was designated by Bleeker in 1863; this had been described by Heckel in 1838, and was erroneously described again by the same author in 1844 as T. valenciennesii. This species is nowadays placed in the genus Bangana.

The alleged members of this polyphyletic assemblage mainly belong to the disputed subfamily Labeoninae (considered the tribe Labeonini of subfamily Cyprininae by other authors), but some are less closely related cyprinids. The 34 taxa formerly placed in Tylognathus, with their currently valid names, were:[1]
