Tuggerah is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, situated on the Main North Line and Sydney-Newcastle Freeway about 90 km north of Sydney. It is part of the Wyong Shire local government area.
Not to be confused with Tuggerah, QLD, Tuggerah was originally an Aboriginal word but its true meaning is not agreed upon by all sources. Some say that it originally meant 'cold' or 'cold place'[1] and some say 'savannah grasslands'.[2]
The town is a major industrial and commercial area for the Central Coast, and has the region's second largest shopping centre – Westfield Tuggerah – as well as a home improvement centre including several factory outlets. Tuggerah also holds the popular Slam Skate Board Factory, an indoor skateboarding and BMX park.
It has the second smallest populace of any suburb on the central coast.
