Tschugg is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Tschugg has an area of 3.3 km2 (1.3 sq mi). Of this area, 44.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 45.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 9.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.6%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]
Tschugg has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 446.[1] As of 2007[update], 16.5% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -2.1%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (90.2%), with French being second most common ( 3.4%) and Albanian being third ( 1.7%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 26.6% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (24.6%), the Green Party (22.4%) and the FDP (17.4%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 23.2% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 60.7% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 16.1%. In Tschugg about 61.7% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Tschugg has an unemployment rate of 1.39%. As of 2005[update], there were 23 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 5 businesses involved in this sector. 10 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 4 businesses in this sector. 325 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 11 businesses in this sector.[3]
