The Tripolina is a folding chair made out of wood, metal and cloth. The tripolina chair was introduced to the public at the International Fair of St. Louis in the 1904 by Joseph Fendy, who had patented the design in 1877. The original creator of the chair remains anonymous. One of the first known uses of the Tripolina chair has been as a support for the English troops in the war campaigns of the 19th century. Easy to assemble and disassemble, the versatile design of the chair uses a hemp burlap with pockets that slip over the structure. A bag, tailored for containing the chair, makes transportation very easy.
The chair has inspired other folding chairs, the famous BKF Chair for instance, also known as Butterfly chair, which uses curved parts of metal instead of the wooden structure.
