Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy is an accredited, for-profit private college located in Chicago, Illinois, offering two-year degree programs in digital arts and entertainment technologies. Founded in 2007 as Flashpoint, The Academy of Media Arts and Sciences, the college entered a 50/50 partnership with Tribeca Enterprises, the company established by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff best known for producing the Tribeca Film Festival, in April 2010. At the time of the partnership, Flashpoint was renamed Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy.
Tribeca Flashpoint received the authority to grant A.A.S. degrees from the Illinois Board of Higher Education on February 5, 2010. As of April 2011, Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy’s Associate’s Degree programs are nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).
Tribeca Flashpoint offers two-year Associate of Applied Science degree programs in five areas of study:
All of Tribeca Flashpoint's programs are considered full-time. The school does not currently offer a la carte classes in any of their five areas of study.
Tribeca Flashpoint's campus is housed within three buildings in the Chicago Loop: historic Burnham Center (28 North Clark Street), the Merchandise Mart (222 Merchandise Mart Plaza), and the CBS Chicago broadcast facility (108 N. State Street).
Burnham Center is considered to be Tribeca Flashpoint's primary location, with its 4th, 5th, and 6th floors housing the majority of the school's classrooms, labs, and sound stages. Other facilities at this location include a 50-seat screening room, a recording studio, and the multipurpose "Matrix."
Tribeca Flashpoint's regular enrollment terms begin in September and January. In 2011, Tribeca Flashpoint began offering a June enrollment for students who already possess a Bachelor's degree.
Tuition cost is $25,000 per year.
