Treiten is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Treiten has an area of 4.7 km2 (1.8 sq mi). Of this area, 74.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 17.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 7.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.3%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]
Treiten has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 421.[1] As of 2007[update], 7.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 5.4%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (95.4%), with French being second most common ( 2.0%) and Albanian being third ( 1.3%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 63.9% of the vote. The next two most popular parties were the FDP (7.9%) and local small left-wing parties (6.4%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 25.8% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 57.2% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 17%. In Treiten about 76.9% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Treiten has an unemployment rate of 0.85%. As of 2005[update], there were 100 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 23 businesses involved in this sector. 4 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 2 businesses in this sector. 22 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 9 businesses in this sector.[3]
