In ancient times, the area was part of the Roman province of Noricum.
There is only one subdivision: that of Trattenbach.
There are 25 companies, 19 in 1991. 269 persons are employed. The activity rate in 2001 was 44.96%.
In the 1920s, the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein was an elementary teacher at the school in Trattenbach.
