Tradition (journal)

Tradition: A Journal of Orthodox Jewish Thought is a quarterly Orthodox academic journal published by the Rabbinical Council of America in association with Yeshiva University in New York City. It contains essays about the history, philosophy, and practice of Orthodox Judaism.

Overview

Tradition was founded in 1958 by Rabbi Norman Lamm (1958–1962), currently Chancellor of Yeshiva University. Its subsequent editors were Rabbi Walter Wurzburger (1962–1988), Rabbi Emanuel Feldman (1988–2001) and Rabbi Michael Shmidman (2001–2004). It is currently edited by Rabbi Shalom Carmy, Professor of Bible and Jewish Thought at Yeshiva University. In its five decades in print, Tradition has published on a wide range of topics including theology, history, biography, sociology, politics, and ethics, and has featured seminal articles by the Rav, the late Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik, the preeminent leader of twentieth century Modern Orthodox Judaism. Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik wrote many articles for Tradition in the 1960s and 1970s. Other notable rabbis have contributed or edited articles.[1]
