Toyohashi Station (豊橋駅 Toyohashi-eki) is an interchange railway station in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, Tōkaidō Main Line, Iida Line, and is a terminus of Meitetsu’s Nagoya Main Line. It is located 293.6 rail kilometers from Tokyo Station. It is operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central).
Toyohashi has the unique status of being the only railway station where commuters can transfer between the JR lines and the Meitetsu (Nagoya Railroad) lines without passing through ticket gates.

Toyohashi Station was opened September 1, 1888 when the section of the Japanese Government Railways (JGR) line connecting Hamamatsu with Obu was completed. This line was named Tōkaidō Line in 1895, and the Tōkaidō Main Line in 1909. The privately-owned Toyokawa Railway began operations to Toyohashi on July 15, 1897, but renamed its terminus Yoshida Station (吉田駅 Yoshida-eki) in 1899 to differentiate itself from the government railway system. The station building was rebuilt in 1916 and again in 1927. The Aichi Electric Railway’s Toyohashi Line began operations to the Yoshida Station’ side of the facility on June 1, 1927. This line became part of Meitetsu on August 1, 1935, and is now the Nagoya Main Line. [2] The Toyokawa Railway was nationalized on August 1, 1943, becoming the Iida Line, and the usage of ‘Yoshida Station’ was dropped. The station was destroyed in the Toyohashi Air Raid of June 20, 1945 during World War II.
After the war, the JGR became the Japan National Railway (JNR) and a new station was completed in 1950. Tōkaidō Shinkansen operations to Toyohashi Station started on October 1, 1964. A new station building was completed in 1970. With the privatization and dissolution of the JNR on April 1, 1987, the station came under the control of the Central Japan Railway Company. A shopping center and a hotel were added to the station building complex in 1997.
Toyohashi Railroad has two small stations attached to Toyohashi Station: Shin-Toyohashi Station for the Atsumi Line railway and Ekimae Station for the Azumada Main Line tramway.
Local train service at Toyohashi Station is handled by five platforms serving eight tracks. The Iida Line and Meitetsu lines use three tracks terminating in a bay platform. The Tōkaidō Main Line uses a side platform and two island platforms. The Shinkansen portion of Toyohashi Station has a side platform and an island platform.
