This location is approximately 230 kilometres (140 mi), by road, east of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city.[1] The coordinates of the power station are: 00 38 21N, 34 07 05E (Latitude:0.6375; Longitude:34.1180).[2]

Description

Tororo Power Station is owned and operated by Electro-Maxx Limited, a private energy provider in Uganda, who built the power plant at an estimated cost of US$32 million.[3] The plant will use heavy fuel oil, a byproduct of petroleum distillation.[4] It will also use bio-diesel extracted from the Jatropha curcas plant, which is native to northeastern Uganda and thrives in the region. Construction of the power station was completed in December 2009. The new plant is undergoing testing. Commissioning is expected in the first quarter of 2010.[5]

The power station was commissioned in June 2010. Electro-Maxx, the company that owns the station, has announced plans to expand power production at this location to 50MW by the end of 2010.[6]
