Career

Granger’s career began in his native South Africa in 1991 at advertising agency Grey where he worked as an assistant art director. During the course of the following 12 years, Granger worked as an art director at several agencies, including Braud & Associates, Preller Sharpe Rice, and Geffen Simkins & Marrington before landing an art director role at Hunt Lascaris. After a few years, he was promoted to Group Head, Creative Director, and then finally to Executive Creative Director.

When Hunt Lascaris was sold to TBWA in 1995, Granger was promoted to the World Wide Creative Directors Board, helping grow the agency into a global player that created brave, cutting edge work for clients including BMW, Land Rover, PlayStation, Wonderbra, and Bic Pens.

After 14 years in South Africa, Granger took a position with Bozell New York as Co-President and Chief Creative Officer. At Bozell, he worked with the president to restructure the agency, and within five months, Bozell hit the billion-dollar revenue mark.[1]

In January 2003, Granger joined Saatchi & Saatchi as Executive Chief Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi London. Eighteen months later, he transferred to New York to lead Saatchi's headquarter office. Under Granger’s leadership, Saatchi produced work for clients including JC Penney, Ameriprise, Wendy’s, Procter & Gamble and General Mills. In 2007, Saatchi became the International Agency of the Year at both the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival [2] and the Clio Awards.[3] It was also ranked the #2 agency worldwide by the prestigious Gunn Report.

Granger joined Young & Rubicam in 2008,[4] serving as the Global Chief Creative Officer and partner to Hamish McLennan, Y&R’s Global Chairman and CEO. In 2010, just two years after joining the agency, Granger led Young & Rubicam to win Agency Network of the Year at both the Art Directors Club and New York Festivals. Young & Rubicam was also named a Network of the Year (third place) at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.[5]

Awards

To date, Granger has won more than 56 Cannes Lions, upwards of 1,000 industry awards and has served as president of several international advertising juries.[6]
