The Tongaat Hulett Group is a major agribusiness company of southern Africa that focuses on sugar. The company is originally based on the Sugar Coast, in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, a suburb of Durban, and was founded in 1892 by Liege Hulett.[1] Company stock is listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange. Its core businesses are sugar, starch and property management.

Cape Sweeteners, based in Durban, is a subsidiary of Tongaat Hulett Sugar, producing aspartame, neotame, acesulfame-K, fructose, sodium saccharin, sodium cyclamate, polydextrose, maltitol and lactitol. It is the exclusive South African agent of Nutrasweet's aspartame and neotame.[5]
The company is Africa's largest producer of starch and glucose,[6] produced at five South African facilities.
Tongaat Hulett Developments is a property management company that builds and maintains commercial property, residential property, industrial property and resorts.[7]
Hulamin and Hulamin Extrusions are aluminium product companies that were disbundled from Hulett in April 2007; Hulamin is an Edendale company that fabricates aluminium goods and construction materials; while Hulamin Extrusions operates aluminium extrusion plants in Pietermaritzburg, Midrand and Cape Town.
