Today's Sunbeam is a daily newspaper in Salem, New Jersey, United States. Its main competitors are The Philadelphia Inquirer across the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, and the Courier-Post and Burlington County Times in South Jersey.[2] It is a sister newspaper to the Gloucester County Times and The News of Cumberland County (in Cumberland County), as all are owned by Advance Publications.
Founded in 1819 as the Salem Messenger, the present-day Sunbeam, re-named in 1972, has expanded its readership from just Salem to cover all of Salem County's local news as well as the most important national news. It is the least populated county in New Jersey with only 65,000 residents. Situated in the southwestern portion of the state, Today's Sunbeam has easy access to both Philadelphia and the Jersey shore communities, which include Ocean City, Atlantic City, and Wildwood, among others.[3]
MediaNews Group acquired Today's Sunbeam in 1990. Advance Publications bought MediaNews' New Jersey and Pennsylvania newspapers in 2000.
