History

Tinet was set up 1998 to provide Internet connectivity for the Tiscali group. Due to significant growth in the use of internet services, Tinet branched out to become a full service provider in 2002 and as of April 2009 ranks as one of the leading service providers worldwide.

In October 2010, Tinet was acquired by Neutral Tandem, a provider of tandem interconnection services to wireless, wireline, cable and broadband telephony companies based in Chicago USA running a US wide network capable of connecting approximately 500 million telephone numbers assigned to carriers in the United States. Tinet is now fully owned by Neutral Tandem.

Network

Tinet's network includes over 100 IP/MPLS PoPs covering the most of Europe, USA, Canada and APAC. Tinet coverage in Europe extends from the Mediterranean countries such as Spain and Italy to the Nordic and from Ireland to Eastern Europe. In the North American market Tinet is consistently growing its network infrastructure which currently spans across the North American region from Quebec to Texas in the US and from California to Massachusetts.

Based on the amount of Internet traffic on Tinet’s IP backbone, Tinet is among the largest Internet carriers worldwide: the company operates one of the top 10 IP network backbone [1] and the largest IPv6 network worldwide[2]. The company is one of the first carriers in Europe to have a "next generation Internet" network in actual production

The Tinet IP/MPLS backbone extends over 3 continents with customers in 6 continents.
