White's academic background is in physiology, kinesiology and human biodynamics with an emphasis on work in muscle plasticity, injury and aging.[3]

He is a first-generation college student and has attended all the branches of California's public higher education system. He began his college career at Diablo Valley Community College,[4] then earned his B.A. from Fresno State University and his master's degree from Cal State Hayward.
