Early life

Chandler was born in Frankfurt, Germany to an African American father who was born in New York and served in the U.S. military, and a German mother. His father left him and his mother not long after his birth, and he continued to live with his mother in Germany, where he was raised.[1]

Career

Professional

Chandler began his career at Sportfreunde Oberau as well as time with Eintracht Frankfurt before transferring to 1. FC Nuremberg in the summer of 2010. He made his debut for the first team of Nuremberg on 15 January 2011 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.[2] On 12 February, he scored the first goal of his professional career against VfB Stuttgart.[3]

International

Due to the nationalities of his parents, Chandler holds both, a German and a U.S. passport. He was therefore eligible to represent either nation at the international level.[1]

On March 16, 2011, it was announced that Chandler would be part of the United States's 24-man squad set to face Paraguay and Argentina in international friendlies. Chandler made his debut with the U.S: on March 26, 2011, playing the entire second half of a 1-1 draw against Argentina.[4]
