Times Now is a 24-hour English language news channel based in Mumbai and broadcast primarily in the South Asian region. The channel was launched in 2006 as a joint-venture of Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd., the publishers of The Times of India and Reuters. Arnab Goswami is the Editor-in Chief and Sunil Lulla is the current CEO. It was the first news channel in India to be launched on mobile screens (Reliance Infocomm Network).

History

Times Now began its operations in July 2005. Sunil Lulla was hired from the Sony Entertainment Television to be the CEO. The channel which now enjoys a considerable share among Indian English news channels has a young team of journalists. Some of the prominent journalists and anchors in the channel include Navika Kumar, Srinjoy Chaudhury, Mahrukh Inayet, Rupali Mehra and Tamanna Inamdar. Its popularity is largely attributed to its editor-in-chief, Arnab Goswami, who is regarded as a journalist who asks tough questions of panelists on his program, The News Hour, that is telecast at 9 PM every weekday. Many have criticised Arnab Goswami's style of interviewing as a 'one-man show'. Several jokes have been doing the rounds about it. Arnab continues nevertheless.

Distribution

Early in 2008 Times Now (and sister channel ZOOm) tied up with Star TV India (a News Corp company) for distribution in India. Star being the largest TV network brings distribution clout (and subscription revenues) to the two Times Group channels.[1]

Other channels

In early 2008, reports began to filter out that Times Now was planning to launch a Business News channel. Rahul Joshi, the Executive Editor of The Economic Times, is the editor of the channel.
