Thorar

Thorar is a town in Poonch District, Azad Kashmir. It is located about 18 miles from Rawalakot city, the capital of Poonch district.

Location

Thorar is a Tehsil of District Poonch(Rawalakot)Azad Jammu Kashmir, and is connected to Rawalakot and Muzaffarabad by main roads. Its suburbs are Tain, Mang, Jassapeer, Bhalgran, Nar, Bosa Gala and Androt. The literacy rate in Thorar is over 90%. It is about 70 kilometres (43 mi) from Kohala, thorar is also linked to Rawalpindi, Islamabad (via the neighbouring areas of Azad Pattan and Dhalkot), and to Muzaffarabad via Kohalla. Majority of the people in Thorar belong to Sudhun(Sududai) tribe. People are very generous and helpful. There is one Govt.Boys Degree College, Govt.Girls College and some private colleges and schools for boys and girls.

Occupation

There are very few jobs available within Thorar, people are subsistence farmers, some who are lucky enough to find job locally work in schools or services sector in Government of Azad Kashmir, some people have their own businesses, some move to Pakistan to join Pakistan Army and other private/government services. Large number of people from Thorar are in Europe, United States and Middle East.

Sports

People of this region play volley ball, cricket and football.

Shopping

The town has few good bazaars where all essential commodities of life are easily available.
