After this he was Vicar of St John, Carlisle[5] and then Rural Dean of East Bristol [6]. In 1899 he returned to Charles [7] to be Rural Dean of the Three Towns and then a decade later became Rural Dean of Bolton [8] before a 11 year spell as Bishop of Colchester.[9]
