They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top (October 2001) is the first album released by dance-punk band Liars. It was then released in 2002 by English label Blast First Records. It displays the band in their original line-up and having a more "classic" band set-up of singer (Angus Andrew), guitarist (Aaron Hemphill), bassist (Pat Noecker, currently in These Are Powers) and drummer Ron Alberton). It also showcases their original sound, which is a noisy, atonal version of dance-punk. They abandoned this style soon after, in favour of a more experimental and arty sound. The title of the album expresses their frustration of being lumped in with the other dance-punk bands and so called scene of the time. Yeah Yeah Yeahs covered the song "Mr. Your on Fire Mr." [sic], which was released as a B-side of their single "Pin".
