History

Therafirm originated in the early 1950s when Parke-Davis, a pharmaceutical manufacturer, developed one of the first gradient compression stockings. In 1990, Therafirm was purchased by long time employee, Charles Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft relocated Therafirm to Ellerbe, North Carolina in 1996. Ellerbe is located in the center of the United States' largest hosiery manufacturing districts[2]. In 2000, Knit Rite, Inc, a manufacturer and distributor or Orthotic and Prosthetic products, purchased Therafirm.

Graduated Compression Product

Graduated compression hosiery and socks deliver a specific amount of pressure greatest at the ankle and then gradually decrease that pressure up the leg.[3] . Therafirm offers several compression levels. The higher the compression, the more pressure is applied to the leg. Higher compression levels are often used to help medical conditions that cause swelling and/or tired, achy legs. Before trying a compression product to help one of these conditions, please consult a medical professional.[4]
