Then and Now... the Best of The Monkees was a 1986 compilation album of songs by The Monkees, released by Arista Records.
With the 1986 revival of Monkeemania, Arista Records issued a new Monkees best-ofs collection, including three new recordings featuring Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork. Michael Nesmith or Davy Jones did not participate in the new recordings (although Nesmith did not join the 1986 tour with the reassembled Monkees, Jones did; however, Jones would pointedly leave the stage when the new songs were performed.)
A single, "That Was Then, This Is Now", charted at #20 in the US during that year, but its followup, a remix of "Daydream Believer", failed to connect with listeners. "Kicks" was a remake of the original Paul Revere and the Raiders hit.
The original stereo version of "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You", recorded in 1967, first appeared on this album, with notable lack of hand claps and Davy Jones muttering "oh no, oh no" during the instrumental section. "I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone" has the title sung before the third verse, while other releases omit this.
