"The Fast Food Song" was the debut single by the British-based band the Fast Food Rockers, released from their album It's Never Easy Being Cheesy. It was the first single release from the album. Its chorus mentions the fast food restaurants McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The song was highly successful on the UK Singles Chart, reaching number two. The song also reached number fifty-six on the Australian ARIA Charts. The tune was mildly controversial for supposedly promoting the excessive consumption of fast food by children. Most recently, Matthew Wilkening of AOL Radio ranked the song at #87 on the list of the 100 Worst Songs Ever, commenting, "We'd like to see Morgan Spurlock spend 30 days listening to nothing but this song. He'd never survive."[1]
The band are widely considered to be one-hit wonders.
The chorus was based on the Moroccan folk tune "A Ram Sam Sam". The song was originally written in 2002 by Dutch producer Eric Dikeb in 2002, and had been a #1 hit in Germany with a version recorded by DJ Ötzi, as "Burger Dance". Another version, "De Pizzadans", recorded by Dynamite, had been a hit in Belgium.[2]
Remakes
Butlins Holiday Camps had a version made, the chorus of which states "a burger king, a burger king, southern fried chicken and a burger king, at Butlins, at Butlins". A Halloween version was also made: "A haunted house, a haunted house, a vampire bat and a haunted house, a zombie, a zombie". The Fast Food Rockers also made a Christmas version.
