The Congress (2013 film)

The Congress is an upcoming live action/animation film by Ari Folman based the short story The Futurological Congress by speculative fiction author Stanislaw Lem.[1]

Plot

In the story, an aging actress with a disabled child agrees to a large payment to have a full body imaging that will be digitized and utilized to create a digital actress. As part of the agreement, she will no longer control her likeness and the studio will the utilize the new virtual thespian in any manner they see fit. As part of the agreement, she will also be forbidden from acting ever again.

The film explores the ramifications of how the new digital actress affects the future of the woman and society as a whole.

Development

A Franco-German production, the animation is being done by a French animation house with principal live action filming done in the United States from February - March 2011.[2][3] Folman began working on the film in 2008,[1] securing additional financing in 2011 from French bank Coficine-Natixis.[4]
