Co-operative Group Motors Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Co-operative Group Ltd., trading as The Co-operative Motor Group.[1] Farnell Land Rover is a trading name of Albert Farnell Limited which is also a subsidiary of The Co-operative Group.[2] Both head offices are located at Media House in Bradford.

History

In 2005, the Society sold Priory Motor Group, a car retail business. Reg Vardy purchased the majority of the dealerships in the North East region. Following its merger with United Co-operatives, the Society once again operates car dealerships, which were rebranded from Sunwin to The Co-operative Motor Group in November 2009.[3]

Dealerships

There are currently 22 dealerships in Yorkshire, Lancashire and the East Midlands. These consist of different Manufacturer Franchises including Land Rover, Renault, Nissan, Peugeot, Fiat, Mazda, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Suzuki and formerly MG Rover. The Land Rover franchise is still trading as Farnells after Sunwin Motors purchased the Guiseley (Land Rover and MG Rover) and Bradford (Land Rover) dealerships from Albert Farnell Ltd, a Leeds Franchise has also recently opened retailing just the Land Rover Brand under Farnell. Although every now and then offers and its main website is branded as Sunwin. Sunwin acquired Motor Dealerships in Derby, Nottingham, Mansfield, Ilkeston and Loughborough from Ilkeston Co-op Motor Group in 2004 for an undisclosed sum.

The Co-operative Motor Group's Renault Dealerships are in Bradford, Blackpool, Preston, Nottingham, Derby and Mansfield, although they do have a Renault Minute Service Centre in Ilkeston. Nissan Dealerships are in Ilkeston, Nottingham, Bradford, Derby and Keighley. The Peugeot Dealerships are situated in Ilkeston and Keighley (Sunwin did previously also have Peugeot Halifax, although this was recently sold to Dews Motor Group). Sunwin owns three Mazda Franchises in Loughborough, Derby and Guiseley (formerly MG Rover), two Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep Franchises in Derby and Nottingham.

It has just one Fiat dealership in Derby, and one Suzuki dealership in Mansfield. Of all the Motor Groups' sites, Derby, is the largest with seven franchises (Renault, Nissan, Fiat, Mazda, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep and an Any Make Any Model service centre). The Co-operative Motor Group also now has just one Renault Business Centre in Bradford which looks after various types of small businesses and large fleets, including accounts with major funders in addition to supplying vehicles to the Co-operative Group.[4]
