The City Hall (City Hall, 시티홀) is a South Korean romantic drama. The story revolves around Shin Mi Rae (Kim Sun Ah), as she turns from a low-grade govenment clerk into the youngest Mayor of Inju City. The drama also marked movie star Cha Seung Won's return to the small screen after a six-year absence.^[1]

Synopsis

Shin Mi-rae is a civil servant who’s been working at a very low post for the last seven years. Known for her great coffee, she falls in love with Jo Gook, the new deputy mayor. Mi-rae has a great deal of credit card debt, so she enters a beauty pageant to win the first prize of 20,000,000 won (approximately 20,000 dollars). But when the prize money ends up in the mayor’s pocket, Mi-rae holds a one-person demonstration in front of city hall. After a series of ups and downs, Mi-rae gets her prize money, but has no choice but to resign from her job. When the situation is leaked to the press, the mayor resigns as well. The job of mayor is up for grabs and Mi-rae becomes nominated as a mayoral candidate with the support of her followers and Jo Gook, the deputy mayor. Will Mi-rae rewrite history as the youngest female mayor ever? What is Jo Gook’s real intention in helping make Mi-rae mayor?^[2]

Soundtrack

Renowned pianist and music director Noh Young Shim, known for her work on Bad Couple and Alone in Love, does her magic again on The City Hall OST. The soundtrack comes with 20 tracks including the main theme Kurae, Nareul Midja (Track 2) by Jung In, "Uncertain Love" (Track 3) by Clazziquai's Horan, and Lim Jae Wook's "This Love" (Track 7).

Trivia

• Due to the impact of the City Hall's ratings, the 2 dramas Partner and Triple ratings remained in single digits. Those 2 dramas lost their ratings to City Hall even when both ratings were totaled.^[3] City Hall received the highest TV drama ratings among its competition.
• TNS media reports that according to their statistic research, Episode 20 of City Hall has set a record of 19.6% of the ratings, hence it became the winner of the overall TV ratings. The drama broke its own record on June 25 of 18.3% with an increase of 2%.
• This "Rain Controversial" scene was shot at the SBS Mountain Park Studios. Cha Seung Won and Kim Sun Ah suffered quite physically just to shoot this scene. The two actors were very professional as they stood in the rain for 6 hours until the director was satisfied with the shooting. In order for both actors to find the right feeling and mood to act in the heavy rain, they never got to rest during the shooting.
• Kim Sun Ah demonstrated what she would look like if she was soiled with more than 200 eggs.
