Military Establishments

India's biggest Central industrial Security Force (CISF) regional training centre (RTC) camp is located in Nagarikuppam village and it is just 2 km away from Thakkolam. CISF is a para-military force under the Ministry of Internal affairs. CISF personnel are deployed to protect central govt. industries, Airport, Seaport, Metro railways etc..

Transportation

With the development of a vast road network Thakkolam is now well connected to its nearby towns and villages. Many state owned-cum-private busses ply these roads frequently. If that was not enough there are abundant services from the auto-rickshaws in the village. The village is strategically located near two railway stations, the Thakkolam railway station at koot road and the Thiruvalangadu railway station at the Tirupati-Chennai highway. The latter connects the village with Chennai and Arakonam with its vast commuter rail system while the former provides connectivity to Arakonam, Tirumalpur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpet with fewer trains.Private taxis and vans can be also arranged from koot road.

Lifestyle

The village has a multi-linguist communal living background. Many Hindi-speaking communities have also settled over the village. The village sports nearly twenty temples out of which only three are popular.Temple festivals and Village fairs are celebrated in a very pompous manner. The traditional and distinct style of architecture is even visible in the houses the people dwell in.The village is small and charming and ideal for one who would love to mingle with the local communities. Almost all the people here are renowned for their manners and gestures.

The village does not have many affluent communities but the central part of the village has some middle-class families. There are also saloons,juice-stalls,laundries,departmental and stationary stores.Thakkolam also has a cinema-multiplex.For a normal man who lives in a metropolis these things may sound cheap, but for a village detested miles away from a town they are something unique. Thakkolam also has a weekly village market which is very popular in the village as well its neighbourhoods.

Thakkolam may seem boring for some but one must visit the place to realise the lifestyle the people lead which is sandwiched between tradition and technology.
