Termidor

Termidor is a brand name under which BASF sells Fipronil. Termidor is used as a barrier treatment for termites. The product is used to apply a barrier to prevent termites from attacking structural wood. Termidor does not repel termites. Instead, termites enter the treated area and receive a lethal dose of the insecticide. Termites contaminated with the chemical can transfer the insecticide to other termites. Thus termites who never came in contact with the treated surface still die.

Species treated

Termidor is labeled by the United States Environmental Protection Agency to kill Western Subterranean Termites, Eastern Subterranean Termites, Desert Subterranean Termites, Formosan Subterranean Termites, and is also labeled for wood injection control of Drywood Termites.

Termidor has been approved for use against the Rasberry crazy ant in the Houston, Texas area, under a special "crisis exemption" from the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency. The chemical is only approved for use in Texas counties experiencing "confirmed infestations" of the newly-discovered ant species. [1]
