Tel-O-Fun

Tel-O-Fun is a Bike sharing service which provides the city of Tel Aviv by the private company FSM ground services. The service's main goal is to reduce the movement of vehicles within the city. The project also aims to reduce air pollution, create a friendly atmosphere in the city, and encourage physical activity. The service name is the blend of the words 'TelAviv', and the English word for pleasure (fun).

The service was launched on 28 April 2011 and has provided over 250 bikes, available to any person over the age of 15, in 35 docking stations deployed around the city. As of October 2011 there are 125 active stations, providing more than 1,000 bicycles. [1] As of April 2011 the municipality has completed construction of about 100 kilometers of bicycle paths.

The rental system was built in collaboration with transport corporation, Deutsche Bahn. A complex computer terminal is located in the docking stations. An associated command and control system manages the entire array. Side terminals are installed with cable stations magnetic pages connect bicycles. To prevent a shortage of availability of the bike at one station and another station load cycling, regulate the bicycle transportation crews from station to station, according to a model developed at Tel Aviv University.

The project is based on a deficit budget of the municipality and is not profitable. Budget for the next ten years is about 130 million shekels.

The Bikes

Tel-O-Fun bikes - how are equipped with lock and sling back, and they contain electronic components that allow the identification by bike stations, track ride, bike mode (lighting, brakes, dynamo), and collecting statistical data on bicycle use. Bicycle manufactured - by company Panther (Panther Werke) in Germany, they have three gears, and adapted for women and men alike.

Bike parts are not easily broken (you can not remove the seat), and they are not standard sizes, ie different parts will not fit bikes sold in case someone tries to disassemble parts to sell or use them for his personal bike.
