Taughmaconnell

Taughmaconnell, officially Taghmaconnell^[1] (Irish: Teach Mhic Conaill, meaning "MacConaill's house"), is a village in County Roscommon, Ireland. It lies between Athlone and Ballinasloe.

The majority of people work hard on the land at a mixture of cattle and sheep. Ballinasloe is approx. 5 miles and Athlone is approx 6 miles. St Ronan's well lies in the middle of the parish and hosts an annual mass. McHugh's Tavern, and Killeen's Pub are the local pubs and Costelloe's shop and now post office lie in the centre of the parish beside the church.

Local tourism site and activities include St. Ronan's well, Castlesampson castle, and rare orchid flora walking trips.

Sport

• Soccer - The local soccer team is Skyvalley Rovers which plays in the Roscommon and District League. The team plays at Onagh Park close to the village.
• Gaelic Games - The local GAA team is Padraig Pearses which is located at Woodmount, just off the main Athlone-Ballinasloe N6 road.
• Tug of War - The local Tug of War club (Taughmaconnell) was established in 2009 and is affiliated to the Irish Tug of War Association. The team trains at Cloonkeen, Taughmaconnell.
