Tatiana Mikhaylovna Riabouchinska (Russian: Татьяна Михайловна Рябушинская; 23 May 1917 – 24 August 2000) was a Russian-born prima ballerina.
She was born in Moscow in 1917. She was trained by the great Mathilde Kschessinska, and was later a prima ballerina in France. Together with Irina Baronova and Tamara Toumanova she was the third of Colonel W. de Basil's "baby Ballerinas" in the 1930s. In the United States, she trained actress and dancers such as Rita Moreno, Ann-Margret and Joanne Woodward.
She was the model for Hyacinth Hippo, the hippopotamus dancing in the Dance of the Hours segment of Disney's Fantasia.[1]
In most of her performances, Riabouchinska's dance partner was David Lichine, whom she later married.[2] Together, Riabouchinska and Lichine had one daughter, Tanica Lichine.[3] Riabouchinska and Lichine later danced together onscreen in the "Two Silhouettes" segment of Disney's Make Mine Music.
Riabouchinska appears in the documentary Ballets Russes.
She died in Los Angeles on 24 August 2000, aged 83.
