Takeshi Shudō (首藤 剛志 Shudō Takeshi , August 18, 1949 - October 29, 2010) was a Japanese scriptwriter. He was best known as chief writer of the Pokémon anime for the Kanto, Orange Islands, and Johto arcs and also wrote the first three films.[1] He departed the series prior to the start of its rehaul as Advanced Generation. Along with Satoshi Tajiri, Ken Sugimori and others, Takeshi Shudo helped to create the world of Pokémon and made his debut in Japan in 1996 (in the US, 1998).
Shudō studied at the University of Tokyo, and went on to do work for many companies such as Studio Ghibli. He has been credited with creating the "unusual intelligence" of the writing in Goshogun and Minky Momo.[2]
He wrote there for several years until he accepted a job at The Pokémon Company. He was given chief writer position almost immediately.
On October 28, 2010, Shudo suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage in the smoking area of the Kansai Main Line's Nara Station at around 6:00 AM, and was transported to a Nara hospital for emergency surgery.[3] He was pronounced dead on the morning of October 29 at the age of 61.[4]
