Sør-Frøya is a former municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. It was made up of the southwestern part of the island of Frøya.[1] The main population center of Sør-Frøya was the village of Titran on the western tip of the island. Hallaren church (Sør-Frøya church) is located in Storhallaren on the southern coast of the island.

History

The municipality of Sør-Frøya was established on 1 January 1906 when the old municipality of Frøya was divided into Sør-Frøya (South Frøya) and Nord-Frøya (North Frøya). The initial population was 2,091. On 1 January 1964, Sør-Frøya ceased to exist when it was merged back together with Nord-Frøya to form the municipality of Frøya once again. Prior to the merger, its population was 2,208.[2]
