Syncplicity offers three kinds of accounts: a no-cost subscription plan, a personal subscription plan, and a business edition subscription plan. [1]
Syncplicity moved their Windows client out of public beta on November 3, 2008.[2]
In 2009 and early 2010, Syncplicity released beta releases of their Mac client (for Intel-based Macs) on July 9, 2009, [3] and later in 2010.[4]
In late 2010, they delivered a supported Mac client for Intel based Macs running version 10.6 or later of Mac OS X.[5]
Starting around the Spring of 2008, several file synchronization and backup services launched around the same time as Syncplicity, including Live Mesh, DropBox, and SugarSync [6]. Syncplicity allows synchronization with other online services like Google Docs, Zoho, and Facebook[7]. A user can opt to sync documents from Windows or Mac with an associated Google Docs account[8]; however, documents uploaded to free Google Docs accounts will be converted to Google Docs file formats while non-supported documents will be omitted. Similarly, photos can also be synced with Facebook albums. Many such online services like Scribd and Piknik are also supported by Syncplicity.
The three people who founded Syncplicity are former Microsoft employees.[9]
In Lifehacker's 2008 "HiveFive" reader poll, Syncplicity was rated second best synchronization software behind Dropbox.
PCWorld's reviewer called Syncplicity "my top pick among sync services"[10] (also in 2008).
