Among the Akan people the Sunsum is one's Spirit. The Sunsum is what connects the body (honam) to the soul (Kra). The Sunsum comes from one's interaction with the world and is the unique means of existence which makes each person an individual. It is not divine like the Kra, and it perishes when a person dies.
