Sunset is an unincorporated community in Montague County, Texas, United States. Until 1900, a surveying error had placed the community in Wise County.[3] The Fort Worth and Denver Railway runs through Sunset. The population was 339 at the 2000 census, at which time the community was yet a city; the city disincorporated on April 19, 2007.[4]

On April 9, 2009, the town was evacuated in advance of approaching wildfires. The fires ripped through the town in "patchwork fashion," destroying many homes and businesses.[5][6]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all of it land.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there are 339 people, 133 households, and 90 families residing in the city. The population density is 318.8 people per square mile (123.5/km²). There are 151 housing units at an average density of 142.0/sq mi (55.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.28% White, 1.18% Asian, 1.47% from other races, and 2.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race are 3.24% of the population.
There are 133 households out of which 36.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% are married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% are non-families. 28.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% had someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.15.
In the city the population is spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $24,886, and the median income for a family is $29,643. Males have a median income of $26,875 versus $17,083 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,304. About 17.3% of families and 16.5% of the population are below the poverty line, including 26.4% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
