Sunbury is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the township of Sunbury, on the Melbourne - Bendigo railway. The station is staffed during daylight hours for most train services until approximately 8pm, and is in Metlink Zone 2. It is also the end of the suburban Metcard ticketing system, being the terminus of Sunbury Line services.

Sunbury station opened on 10 February 1859 as a terminus, the line not being extended north for two more years. The three track yard dated back from this time, and was unique in Victoria. There was a large goods shed on the southern side a large silo on the northern side as well as sheep/cattle ramp and yards. There were housing for railway staff including two houses in Horne Street and the Station Masters house in Brook Street, all demolished in the 1980s. Proper interlocking of the signals and point work did not exist until 1981, and the station was not fully interlocked until 1998 when a Solid State Interlocking was provided. The layout of the station was again altered with the Regional Fast Rail works in 2005. Following a $270 million investment in 2010 from the Victorian State Government, the station will be included on the metropolitan network by electrifying the line from Watergardens to Sunbury.[1] This project is due to be complete in 2012 and will connect Sunbury to metropolitan services rather than the less frequent regional services. The station at Sunbury will be upgraded to Premium Station status.[2]
Sunbury is located between Horne and Brook Streets, which provide station access. The station consists of two side platforms; Platform 1 has a large weatherboard building with an enclosed waiting area, ticket facilities and toilets, while platform 2 is occupied by a small glass shelter with a ticket validator.
A large Metcard vending machine is located at the front of the building on platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. No Metcard vending machine is located on platform 2. A footbridge is located at the Bendigo end of the station, whilst a disused water tower sits adjacent to platform 2. Even though Sunbury is part of Zone 2 it is still operated by V/Line and like many other regional stations it features the new Viclink style signs. From 2012 it will become the terminus for the sunbury metro trains part of the Sunbury electrification project.

Future Met services certainly offer more frequent trips but there is widespread concern in the Sunbury Community of a drop in the quality of train travel with Electrification. The current V/Line services are free of graffiti, clean, safe (every train has a conductor), they have toilets on board (essential for elderley travellers)and they have comfortable seats. The Sunbury community has been promised by past and current governments that they can still travel on V/Line services as a recognition of local concerns.
