Stratochief

Stratochief is a Canadian alternative country band.

The band was originally formed by Greg McConnell, following the breakup of his earlier band, Lost Dakotas. Vaughan Passmore and Johnny Trash, McConnell's 1980s bandmates in Absolute Whores, joined McConnell in the new band.

The band's debut album, Turbines for Speed was released in 1998. However, McConnell died unexpectedly in 1999. The band carried on, however, consisting of members Vaughn Passmore, Johnny Trash, Scott B. Sympathy, Linda Feijo, Terry Wilkins, Duncan McBain, James Gray, and Tim Bovaconti. (Turbines for Speed had included a cover of Sympathy's hit "Drinking With the Poet".)

"Brother 12", from the band's 2002 disc, In Search of the Seven Foot Woman was a breakout hit in Europe. That album was dedicated to McConnell, and featured his image prominently on the cover.
