Stettlen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Stettlen has an area of 3.6 km2 (1.4 sq mi). Of this area, 52.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 25.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 22% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.3%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]
Stettlen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 2,908.[1] As of 2007[update], 9.5% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 1.7%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (92.1%), with French being second most common ( 1.8%) and Italian being third ( 1.5%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 29.7% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (22.4%), the SPS (20%) and the Green Party (10.4%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 24.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 63.6% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 12.1%. In Stettlen about 83.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Stettlen has an unemployment rate of 1.38%. As of 2005[update], there were 33 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 13 businesses involved in this sector. 463 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 18 businesses in this sector. 243 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 54 businesses in this sector.[3]
