StarCon

Starcon is a gaming convention run by the Gaming Guild of Oakland University from 1973 until the present. The convention was originally run under the name Novacon, but had its name changed in 2000 when the Order of Leibowitz became the Gaming Guild.

Starcon is a college convention with few resources and does not have special guests like some of the other conventions in the state such as U-Con.

Dates of conventions

The 1st StarCon, aka Star-Con, was October 31 to November 2, 1973 at Cobo Hall in Detroit. It had NO affiliation to the conventions run at Oakland University, by Steve Sundahl from 1973 to 1977 and Richard Tucholka after then, which had a totally different name.

Star-Con was a Star Trek/Science Fiction/Comic Book Convention put on by David William Lillard (born 1947 in Detroit). Guests included George Takei, Walter Keonig, DC Fontana, Harlan Ellison, Loyd Biggle Jr, Norman Spinrad, David Gerrold and many others - especially Comic Book creators.

Subsequent StarCons were held at the Detroit Hilton Hotel, Detroit Book-Cadillac Hotel and the Sentinel Center.
