Star Bestsellers is an Indian television series that was originally telecast on Star Plus in 1999-2000. Each episode in the series is a separate story written and directed by young and upcoming writer-directors and it carried the special intensity for a different feeling but all about proper human condition and indicating that each person has something great at heart (love, affection etc.).

At that time there was not much of the media hype and so not many people saw it (as its name contains 'Best sellers' indicating commercial stuff) but the few who watched grew as its fans. It was a nostalgia for the people of 90's, especially those born in the era. These themes were copied onto many serials and movies of that time.

It had stories like - a new student in the class and she is not very extrovert and the protagonist also avoiding her and when she realises phew..., about a shopkeeper having misconception that a woman has that special feeling for him, two persons preparing for IAS and they get a permanent infatuation for a neighbourhood woman in next building, a girl and a boy liking each other secretly but opposed to each other in college and finally hugging; a medical student in jail, accused of murder then a beautiful woman comes to his rescue getting indulged in his story of how he just was testing against AIDS and hadn't killed anyone and yes she believes in him- why? No we also believe but she is fainting after getting injected by the same syringe, a horror episode which would make shyamalan and hitchcock proud, five/four men loving a girl and she goes with someone else, a fat boy and his mom and girlfriend; and yes a good one - a girl waiting for her would be husband at a marriage registrar office but he did not turn up and she is a lonely girl between strangers at night and then a witness she met in the morning turns up and helps her to stay at night and then gets her a roof and makes her independent and he does not accept before her that he is giving her a lot and when she asks her why, he just tells her no he is not doing any thing for her, neither he is in love with her (he is) but he feels proud in himself (serving her with support and moneywise) , she stays with him for five months and tries to forget her past and then they go to marry but alas! her husband turns up same day and after knowing it was not his fault she sets apart from the witness telling him sorry and that she cannot leave her friend of five years and he lets her go after knowing that she is only not able to go just because he has done really a lot for her. The list is not yet complete neither the down one nor here but yes some stories do touch hearts as they were the bestsellers. If it were aired now it would have gained a lot of T.R.P.s for sure.

Writers and directors who worked in creating the episodes of the series include Anurag Kashyap, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Imtiaz Ali, Sriram Raghavan and Hansal Mehta.[1]
