Spruce Creek High School is a public secondary school located in the city of Port Orange, Florida. It is the largest IB high school in North America[1] and is one of Newsweek's Top 100 High Schools.[2]. Spruce Creek High School is part of the Volusia County Schools system, which encompasses eight other high schools and 80 schools total. [3] The one-story campus is dominated by a single, contiguous main building, with a separate, smaller Multi-purpose building and several portable classroom buildings (a total of 40 as of 2010), which are spread out across the campus. The school has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence,[1] as well as a Florida Music Demonstration School several years in a row.

Spruce Creek offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. As of the 2009-2010 school year, it is the largest IB school in North America, and number 3 in the world, based on the number of IB exams administered.
The Academy of Finance exposes students to the financial services industry. Students should be comfortable with numbers and have a strong desire to excel. People who are good game players and are willing to adhere to high ethical and moral standards are well suited for business and financial professions. Through enrollment in the Academy of Finance students are prepared with the analytical, mathematical and verbal skills needed in higher education and the financial services industry.
The Academy of Information Technology and Robotics is designed to introduce high school students to the rapidly expanding digital and technological workplace and to the wide variety of career opportunities that it offers. Students will take courses in programming, database administration, web design, digital design, PC repair and networking. There is also a gaming and simulation track offered. The ATIR/AITE/AOIT Academy is now its own 'school inside of a school.' There are no bells, there are no limits on where you can and cannot be within the academy classrooms. The Academy now covers ALL classes; from PE to foreign language. Seminars are twice a week for core classes. Robotics is now offered for three 'blocks' on Thursday mornings, and sometimes after school. At the beginning of the school year, academy students received a 'loaned' Dell Notebook from [Dell and VCS] to use for their course work.
Business Cooperative Education is a training program for students planning careers in business and/ or office occupations. Students go to school in the morning and work each afternoon on the job for an average of 15–25 hours per week. It is a cooperative effort between the school, parents, the student and the employer. All cooperate to assist the student-trainee in applying on the job what her or she is learning in class. BCE helps prepare students not only for his or her career upon graduation, but also for college business courses and for college expenses.
The Spruce Creek Athletic Program has won the Five Star Volusia County Trophy six times in a row from 2000 onwards. It has produced several athletes of note including Ryan Lochte, US Olympic gold medalist swimmer. In 2006, the girl's softball team was runner up in the state tournament.[4]
As of the 2007-2008 school year, the Spruce Creek boys' weightlifting team has won 24 Florida State Weightlifting Championships, and has 79 individual Florida State Weightlifting Champions. They also hold the record for the longest streak of consecutive championships at 11, from 1994 to 2004. Since their streak ended, Creek has added another title in 2006, and came in 3rd place in 2007. Six Creek lifters also hold individual state records in their respected weight classes. The Creek girls' weightlifting team has won all five Florida State Championships since its introduction in 2004. Also, the Spruce Creek Boys' Soccer team made the Class 6A Final Four for the first time in school history.[5] Another sport in which this school excels in is Baseball. Creek baseball maintained a 3.7 GPA as of the 08-09 season and the varsity team won districts as well.
Also for the 2007-2008 school year, Spruce Creek was awarded the Dodge Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award for class 6A public schools within the state of Florida. This award honored Spruce Creek as having one of the best overall sports programs in the state. Spruce Creek also has a colorguard program which runs during two seasons (Marching and Winterguard).
The Spruce Creek Musical Performing Arts department has received numerous awards and invitations to events such as the Tournament of Roses Parade and locations such as France, Germany, The Netherlands, England, and China, and is the annual co-host of the yearly Lakeside Jazz Festival along with Atlantic High School. In 2008 it was announced that the Band and Orchestra would be traveling to Europe in 2010, including visits to Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands where they performed.[2] The marching band and color guard have also marched in the Inaugural Parade for Florida's governor, Rick Scott in 2011. The band and color guard have received straight superiors at all marching competitions for the past 26 years. In November of the 2011 - 2012 school year it was announced that all of Spruce Creek's bands (three jazz, two concert, one full orchestra, and a marching band of over 200) and colorguard had been invited to do a a nine-day performance tour across Ireland and perform in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin in 2013.
