Spidercage (Spindelburen) was an event played in Gladiatorerna, the Swedish incarnation of the television series Gladiators, introduced for the 2003 series.
Contents |
Contender and Gladiator are placed at opposite ends inside a three metre square cage with elasticated webbing on the sides and top. On the base is a red safety mat and around the webbing are ten small hoops. On the whistle, the contender must climb onto the webbing and crawl around the cage to try to grab as many hoops as possible whilst evading the Gladiator. The Gladiator's job is to entangle the contender within the webbing to slow down their progress. 1 point would be awarded for each of the hoops the contenders grabbed, with a maximum of 10 points available.
Neither Gladiator or contender are allowed to leave the cage until the event ends. Leaving the cage will result in disqualification. Gladiators are allowed to use their body to ensnare the contenders against the webbing but are not allowed to kick.
Years active: 2003-2004
Spidercage was only played in the Swedish edition of Gladiators, the last country to film a series of Gladiators before its 2008 revivals. Currently there are no plans for the UK, US or Australia to adopt the event into their events roster.
Other than Soccer Shootout, this was the only known event not to originate from either America or the UK.
