Spellbound! was a computer game made by The Learning Company. The original game is compatible with computers running DOS 3.3 or higher and a later CD release added Windows 95 and Macintosh compatibility.
The Master of Mischief and his minions (the five robots from Midnight Rescue! and Telly from OutNumbered!) have entered the Shady Glen School Spelling Bee and intend to win by any means necessary. You, as the Super Solver, must beat the Master at his own game.
In the introduction sequence, an elf (from Treasure Mountain!) appears and gives you the Spellbinder, in which three games can be played: Criss Cross (a crossword puzzle), Flash Card, and Word Search. By clearing the games, points are earned, and once enough point are obtained, the player can compete in the Spelling Bee against the Master of Mischief and his robots.
There are five levels of difficulty, each ending with a Spelling Bee set in a different location: Classroom (set in a classroom), Schoolwide (in the auditorium), Citywide (Town Square), Statewide (in front of a capitol building), and National (in front of the White House).
