South Downs Road is a cricket ground in Bowdon, Greater Manchester. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1910, when Cheshire played Durham in the Minor Counties Championship. Cheshire next used the ground for a Minor Counties fixture in 1933 against Denbighshire. Cheshire next used the ground in 1977, and from 1970 to 2000, the county used the ground for a further 21 Minor Counties Championship matches. The final Minor Counties Championship match on the ground came against Shropshire in 2001.[1]
The ground has also hosted List-A matches. The first List-A match on the ground was between a combined Minor Counties team and Lancashire in the 1984 Benson and Hedges Cup. The ground next held a List-A match in 1994, when Cheshire played Durham in the 1994 NatWest Trophy. The third and final List-A match held on the ground to date came in the 1999 NatWest Trophy between Cheshire and Kent.[2]
In local domestic cricket, South Downs Road is the home ground of Bowdon Cricket Club[3] who play in the Cheshire County Cricket League. The ground has additional hockey and squash[4] playing facilities.
