According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2), of which, 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2) of it is land and 0.50% is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 379 people, 157 households, and 113 families residing in the town. The population density was 189.7 people per square mile (73.2/km²). There were 174 housing units at an average density of 87.1 per square mile (33.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 73.09% White, 22.69% African American, 3.96% from other races, and 0.26% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.22% of the population.

There were 157 households out of which 25.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% were married couples living together, 13.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.87.

In the town the population was spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $29,135, and the median income for a family was $31,346. Males had a median income of $19,231 versus $22,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,455.
