Sorrento Valley is a neighborhood of San Diego, California. It is located about 15 mi (24 km) north of Downtown San Diego and its main airport, Lindbergh Field. To the west of Sorrento Valley is the Torrey Pines neighborhood, to the east Sorrento Mesa and to the south, La Jolla/University City.
Sorrento Valley is primarily zoned for industrial use, with an emphasis on scientific research, biotechnology, and light manufacturing uses.[1] Its development as a center of research and biotechnology was made possible by its proximity to the University of California, San Diego. It is part of the city's Torrey Pines planning area.

Sorrento Valley is home to many high tech, biotech, and IT companies. Notable companies in the neighborhood include, Qualcomm, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Optimer Pharmaceuticals, and Websense. The headquarters of the San Diego County Republican Party is also located here.[2]
Sorrento Valley is located between the I-5 and I-805 freeways just below where they merge and/or split. Additionally, Sorrento Valley has a Coaster station called Sorrento Valley (NCTD station), with train links to Oceanside and Downtown San Diego.
