Beginning his career at third tier side Tianjin Locomotive Song Boxuan was scouted by top tier side Shanghai Shenhua, who he eventually joined at the beginning of the 2010 league season with fellow team mate Feng Renliang.[1] He was immediately selected as the teams first choice left-winger by the Head coach Miroslav Blažević and would make his debut on March 23, 2010 in a league game against Changsha Ginde F.C. in a 2-0 defeat.[2] Despite the defeat Song would keep his place within the team and due to his ability to also play at left-back, saw Song gain considerable playing time throughout the season. Established as a vital member of the team he would go on to score his first goal for the club on October 24, 2010 in a league game against Shaanxi Renhe in a 3-2 victory.[3]
After an impressive sttart to his Shanghai Shenhua career Song would be called up to the Chinese U-23 squad to take part in the Football at the 2010 Asian Games where he played in all three group games before seeing China get knocked out in the last sixteen.
