History

Skyriver was founded in September 2000.[1] One of its co-founders was Lee M. Gopadze, who had left wireless pioneer company Metricom.[2] In March 2003 Skyriver formed the SkyWeb Alliance with two other regional providers in California.[3][4] Skyriver acquired California based internet service provider Terracom Network Services (TNS), closing the deal in March 2004.[5] In 2005 Skyriver acquired San Diego based IT outsourcing provider Integrate IT, Inc. In 2007 Skyriver completed its backhaul upgrade in anticipation of its planned WiMAX rollout.[6] In 2007 Skyriver added Orange County, California to its fixed wireless service area. Wireless broadband rates of 1.5 Mbit/s to 45 Mbit/s were marketed in Anaheim, La Habra, Garden Grove, Fullerton, Brea and Orange. In 2008 Skyriver acquired the assets of Nethere, Inc.[7] In 2008 a California state appeals court ruled that former director of network operations Mark R. Combs was not eligible for overtime pay.[8]

Services

In Southern California Skyriver offers plans with symmetrical bit rates ranging from 1 Mbit/s to 3.0 Mbit/s. Skyriver also offers its wireless services in some areas from 10 Mbit/s to 45 Mbit/s. As with any ISP, the listed transfer rates are under ideal conditions; actual results vary greatly depending on factors such as service load, distance, and obstacles between the transmitter and receiver.

Skyriver uses wireless technology transmitted from mobile phone towers over unlicensed spectrum in the ISM band including 2.4 GHz, 5.3 GHz, 5.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz and FCC licensed spectrum including 18 GHz.

In addition to broadband wireless services Skyriver provides an array of consulting, IT outsourcing, network connectivity, implementation, and support solutions.
